本種は南アフリカ、北米及び東洋区に広く分布する。日本では本州から九州まで広く分布している。胞子嚢ができているシダ類に普通に見られ、三浦半島ではほぼ一年中成虫が見られる。

This species is widely distributed in South Africa, North America and the Oriental region. In Japan, it is widespread from Honshu to Kyushu, and is commonly found on fern with developed sorus and occurs almost throughout the year in Miura-peninsula, Kanagawa Prefecture.
